Odom Health & Wellness is now offering Yoga Classes at our Minnetonka, MN Clinic location.

Interview with our new Yoga Teacher Emma:

Please Describe your approach to Yoga:

Emma’s Response – “My belief is that yoga is assessable to everyone; no matter their age, size, level of flexibility, etc. My approach to yoga includes attention to proper alignment so that everyone is safe and avoids injury. I also approach yoga with the understanding that some people are nervous about the practice of yoga so I work to make my classes as inviting as possible.”

How can your Yoga classes help people?

Emma’s Response – “The benefits of yoga are boundless. Its benefits range from emotional- stress relief, a clearer, more calm mind to physiological- can help with prevention of high blood pressure, pain, arthritis, etc. to psychological- increased self-awareness, increased mood and mental performance to spiritual- we can learn to use our breath to connect more closely with God.” (Holy Yoga)

How Yoga can help manage pain?

Emma’s Response – “Yoga is believed to reduce pain by helping the brain’s pain center regulate the gate-controlling mechanism located in the spinal cord and the secretion of natural painkillers in the body. One of the tenants of yoga is breath work and when we focus on deep inhalations and deep exhalations we allow our muscles to relax and release tension. Practicing awareness of our breathing helps to achieve calmer, slower respiration and can aid in relaxation and pain management.”[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

She loves sharing her love of vinyasa (flow) yoga with others. She was certified as an instructor by Core Power Yoga in 2006 and was recently certified through Holy Yoga. From an early age she became accustomed to moving her body through gymnastics, tennis and softball. She was first introduced to yoga at LifeTime Fitness and was hooked by its fluid movements and its attention to a mind- body- spiritual connection.

After spending 15+ years as a hair stylist she’s trying her hat in the corporate world of higher education. Her BS in Human Services only increased her interest in the depth and uniqueness of each individual. She approaches yoga with this same mindset. Her attention to proper alignment helps to prevent injury and increase confidence in each of her students practice. She truly believes that yoga is assessable to everyone and she’s so excited to be working with the stellar staff of Odom.

When Emma isn’t working she enjoys hiking, reading, eating her husband’s kitchen creations, and playing with her Border Collie mix, Bergie.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row]
