Regenerative Medicine

If you have an injury that hasn’t responded to traditional methods of orthopedic treatment, then you may want to consider orthobiologic therapy. Orthobiologics are natural, tissue-derived substances that may support your body’s healing process and aid in restoring function. Often used in combination with treatments like physical therapy and pain management, they offer a non-surgical alternative for joint pain, muscle injuries, and other common orthopedic conditions.

Platelet Rich Plasma

PRP injections are a versatile treatment for many common orthopedic issues. Derived from a concentration of platelet cells in your blood, PRP contains growth factors that support the healing process for chronic injuries. By injecting these growth factors into the injured area, the goal is to kickstart your body’s natural healing response and restart the recovery process.

Mesenchymal Signaling Cells

Mesenchymal Signaling Cells (MSCs) are a special type of cell that can differentiate into various cell types: bone cells, cartilage cells, fat cells and muscle cells.  At Odom Health and Wellness we only use MSCs that are derived from the patient’s own body to minimize risks.  Both of the procedures below are minimally invasive and can be done in the office.

Microfragmented Adipose Tissue (MFAT) Procedure

Harvests a small amount of the patient’s fat from the abdomen, thigh or buttocks.  The harvested fat is processed to isolate the MSC’s and then re-injected into the affected area using ultrasound guidance.

Bone-Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC)

Utilizes bone marrow from the patient’s posterior iliac crest.  After drawing out the bone marrow, the cells are concentrated to include a mixture of MSC’s, platelets, interleukins and growth factors and then re-injected using ultrasound guidance into the appropriate area to promote healing.

Prolotherapy

Prolotherapy is a non-surgical technique used for treating chronic musculoskeletal pain.  It involves the injection of an “irritant”, often dextrose, into the affected area, triggering an inflammatory response that promotes healing.

FAQ's

Are these procedures covered under my insurance?

PRP injections, Prolotherapy Injections and BMAC or MFAT procedures are not covered by most insurance companies.

For the first six weeks after the injections, it is recommended to avoid anti-inflammatory medications (e.g., Advil, Motrin, ibuprofen, Aleve, or Celebrex), as they can interfere with the healing response. Tylenol (acetaminophen) is allowed. Because we are restarting the healing process, some people may experience increased pain for approximately a week after the injection. Over the next 5–6 weeks, as the area goes through the healing process, symptoms typically improve. Some clinical trials have noted ongoing improvement up to 5–6 months after a PRP injection. Your doctor will discuss any physical activity restrictions you may have following the injection.

What is the success rate?

The success of the procedure largely depends on your initial diagnosis, with some patients achieving complete pain relief. To determine if you are a candidate, call to schedule a consultation with Dr. John Odom.
