One question we are often asked is on the topic of Greek yogurt. Can this product really help you lose weight? Yes and no. While Greek yogurt does offer many health benefits, including promoting weight loss, how you utilize it (and how much) plays a major factor when it comes to its effectiveness.
Like anything, too much Greek yogurt can lead to weight gain. Eating a ½ bag of candy or a lot of bread with spinach dip only to be offset by a serving of Greek yogurt will also lead to weight gain. Knowing how to eat, not just what to eat, is why we offer a combination of fitness and nutritional services to better promote weight loss results within our clients.
In the meantime, here are 3 fun facts associated with the benefits of Greek Yogurt.
#1. Fat around your waist produces the hormone cortisol, which tells your body to accumulate even more belly flab. Eating Greek yogurt means you’re consuming calcium. This calcium signals your fat cells to pump out less cortisol making it easier for you to lose weight.
#2. One serving of Greek yogurt is a significant source of potassium, phosphorous, riboflavin, iodine, zinc, and vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid). Yogurt also contains protein and B12, which maintains red blood cells and helps keep your nervous system functioning properly.
#3. The potassium Greek yogurt will help flush some of the excess sodium out of your body. This can lead to lower blood pressure readings!
