We’ve been promoting brain health throughout October. A main point has focused on exercising your brain as you would your body. If you don’t use any muscle, you will lose that muscle. The same goes for your brain. The good thing, however, is you can actually workout your body and boost your brain’s functionality at the same time!
Yes, you can actually get an additional brain boost by donning your sneakers and hitting the gym. According to a study done by the Department of Exercise Science at the University of Georgia, even briefly exercising for 20 minutes facilitates information processing and memory functions. You see, working out increases your heart rate. The result of an increased heart rates means more H20 is pumped to your brain. Increasing your heart rate will also release a hormones that participate in providing a nourishing environment for the growth of brain cells. Exercise also promotes the development of new brain cells, and better connections, between the nerves within the brain- allowing for your to keep your memory longer and be detailed orientated.
So you see, exercise not only can help you lose weight and stay physically fit- it can help you stay spry, too!
