Dr. John H.L. Odom, Jr. is a board-certified medical doctor who specializes in sports medicine and he founded Odom Health & Wellness back in 2006 in an effort to help people live life to their fullest potential.
He started his academic career at Colorado State University where he was a Division 1 student athlete who majored in Biology and played football. He attended medical school at the University of Colorado, and went on to do his residency at Hennepin County Medical Center, and then primary sports medicine fellowship in 2003, during which time he worked as team physician at Bethel College, University of St. Thomas, University of Wisconsin Riverfalls, Northwestern College and Hopkins High School.
Ministry, medicine, and the mission field were all passions that came together to shape Dr. Odom’s entire career spanning the past 3 decades. Emergency Medicine, Functional Medicine, Sports Medicine are his areas of expertise. Dr. Odom has a deep desire to help people through their entire lifespan, as well as a dedication to teaching future generations. His private practice addresses health and wellness by incorporating cutting edge technology and a holistic approach to optimize health. Dr. Odom enjoys serving a large variety of patients, from inner city kids to Olympic athletes and everything in between.
Dr. Odom is one of only a handful of physicians in the Twin Cities area to practice the Hackett Hemwall method of Prolotherapy. Countless new studies show Prolo’s effectiveness in successfully treating enthesopathies (common examples include: tennis elbow, jumper’s knee, plantar fasciitis to name a few) that have been refractive to traditional treatments. Dr. Odom has over 10 years of experience doing Prolotherapy injections, and has seen much success for his patients with this treatment.
Dr. Odom has covered the Twin Cities Marathon, Chicago Marathon, USA Triathlon, MN High School State Tournaments (football, basketball, baseball, track, cross country, and dance). He has also been team physician for Northwestern College, the medical director of the USAT National Championship Triathlon (2007-2010, 2013) and World Championship in 2014, the Liberty Triathlon (2006-2010, 2013), the USA team elite triathlete team physician, the team physician for USA Ski and Snowboard, as well as the medical director at Wellspring Health Center and the medical director for the Amsoil Snocross Series, which is the world largest snowmobile race series. He has served as team physician at the USA Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, and he regularly teaches sports medicine fellows.
In his spare time, Dr. Odom enjoys spending time with his family, and practicing what he preaches by staying active participating in marathons, triathlons, cross country skiing and downhill skiing. In 2017 Dr. Odom completed his first Iron Man Triathlon putting him in an elite category of endurance athletes.
