Dr. Odom Provides Medical Coverage: Breckenridge Olympic Qualifier

by | Jan 8, 2014 | Sports Medicine

Dr. Odom was recently asked to provide medical support at the Breckenridge Olympic Qualifier for the Sochi Winter Games happening this week. The event was moved from California’s Northstar ski area to Breckenridge because of the better snow conditions for the snow board and free ski qualifiers for the Sochi Winter Olympic Games. So Dr. Odom is watching and caring for athletes like Shaun White, Nick Goepper and Brita Sigourney.

“It’s been great being out here in Breck. I’m spending the most time with the half pipe skiers. So far we are just into practice rounds before competition starts later in the week. This competition is a qualifying event for Sochi. It’s been great to see the other countries involved. One of the thoughts that come to mind quite a bit, after the amazement of the tricks, is how much can the bar keep being raised. Athletes are now getting air 40 ft off the lip- unbelievable but from an injury point of view catastrophic results. We have to start asking:  “just if it can be done, should it be done?”
