5th Annual Flurry Scurry 5K Brings Families to the Snowy Shores of Lake Minnetonka

EXCELSIOR, MN (JANUARY 20 ) The 5th Annual Flurry Scurry 5K, held in conjunction with The North American Pond Hockey Championship and in coordination with the Kelly Phillips Foundation, will be held on January 20, 2019, at 10am. The fun run will begin at the Club Cambria tent next to Maynards in Excelsior (685 Excelsior Blvd, Excelsior). Last year, over 250 participants bundled up and took a brisk walk, run or jog along the shore of Lake Minnetonka through historic Excelsior and Greenwood, making this one the most scenic winter 5Ks. Laura Hotvet, Director of the Excelsior-Lake Minnetonka Chamber of Commerce and Race Committee Member boasts, “Minnesotans just cannot stay inside, it isn’t in our DNA!  All it takes is the right set of layers, and you’ll be covered.  Every year, the number of registered runners grows, this is one of the few organized winter races held outdoors.  We’ve had all kinds of weather conditions, and everyone has fun no matter what! Once you get moving, you don’t notice the weather.”

This year, profits from the race will benefit both the DinoMights, Hockey in the Hood program, and Twin Cities Track Club. Last year, runners helped raise $6200 for the popular Hockey in the Hood program. DinoMights was founded in 1995 to provide students from Kindergarten to 12th grade in the Phillips, Powderhorn, and Central Neighborhoods the physical, academic, social and spiritual excellence to succeed. DinoMights offers ice hockey, academic tutoring, community service, mentorship, and summer camps. Over the years, 85% of DinoMights participants have graduated high school. Proceeds will help more urban young people enjoy the very Minnesotan sport of hockey and will create whole life youth development.  Twin Cities Track Club is a volunteer-driven organization with 100% of donated funds directly supporting programs such as the Kids City XC League, All Comers Track Meets, Kids Run Free program, and others.

As a proud supporter of the DinoMights Hockey Program, The Kelly Phillips Charitable Foundation which honors the memory of Minnetonka teen, Kelly Phillips, who lived her life to serve the community and individuals alike with stewardship and participation necessary to change. The Foundation also raises funds for safe teen driving initiatives as well as financial support for youth charities in church, athletics and academics.
