Why Spa Week Matters

by | Oct 22, 2014 | Healthy Living

This week is Spa Week. Odom Health & Wellness is the only company in the area to offer discount deals, but we’re doing more than simply offering cheap, introductory services. You see, for many, massage therapy helps improve their quality of life. Many people suffering with depression symptoms benefit from massage therapy for several reasons.

First, massage isn’t a replacement for psychotherapy or medication management. Instead, it is a complimentary service that has proven to offer health benefits, such as circulation improvement, in addition to using the human touch to promote depression symptom alleviation.  According to an article found in Time Magazine, “While releasing the structural collapse associated with depression you will also be releasing the breath process which will allow depressed clients to energize their system and have more energy. This additional energy will allow them to take part in their lives and move out of depression.”

The reason we’re discussing the topic on today’s blog is to promote awareness about the many health benefits associated with massage therapy services. Unfortunately, people tend to think of massage therapy services as a luxury and not a necessity. For many, however, it is quite the opposite. Treating yourself to a massage can be the case for some people, but for many individuals a massage offers a holistic medical experience that results in various breathing, circulation, and mental wellness advantages!

Regular massage therapy services may also help with anxiety. Therapeutic massage was first described in China about 2,500 years ago. Around 400 bc, the Greek healer Hippocrates used massage to treat sprains. Various cultures have since used massage to work with people suffering from not only depression, but anxiety too. Researchers at the University of Miami followed 37 breast cancer patients who received massage therapy or practiced progressive muscle relaxation for five weeks. Women in the massage group reported feeling less angry and/or anxious, and they had more energy.

So, you see, our company is participating in Spa Week because it is important to us and our clients. There are so many health benefits that come from a single or regular massages that the opportunity was too big to ignore. Sure, indulging in a little “me” time is a great reason to sign up for the $50 dollar special, but your overall health will also reap the rewards!
