Health Motivation: 3 Terrible Excuses to Not Get Healthy

Odom Health & Wellness is unable to provide nutrition and weight loss services for individuals living outside of Minnesota

It’s time people! It’s time to make a resolution that you actually keep for 12 months, 52 weeks, all the way through.

It’s time that you make a decision about what parts of your life, your body, your mind and your soul need a tune up.

It’s time you run that 5K instead of walk it.

It’s time you lose the weight and keep it off forever.

It’s time you don’t just feel good about yourself but you feel ready to strut your stuff again.

It’s time your wife notices your muscles again.

It’s time you fit into those skinny jeans.

It’s time you get out of your workout rut.

It’s time to stop making excuses.

You think it’s too expensive? Isn’t your current and long-term health one of the best things to spend money on? Isn’t building muscle, losing weight, feeling better, looking better and reducing your risk for diabetes, heart disease and cancer worth it? Don’t you think you’re either going to spend the money on your body now to be fit and fantastic or later with medications, hospital visits, surgeries or nursing homes?

Be honest with yourself and look at what you spent over Christmas. Was it necessary? Did it bring you long-term health or temporary entertainment? Think about it as temporarily trading in a luxury item or service that you can do without for an education in health that will reap benefits until the end of your life.

You don’t have time? Make it! (This is a personal partnership, remember. I’m going to talk bluntly because there is no one else to tell it to you straight.) I know some of the most busy professionals in the entire world that still get their work out in. They value it. They know the importance of exercise and proper nutrition and they also know that they get that time back with more energy and efficiency. A friend showed me a comic of a patient telling the doctor “I don’t have time to exercise,” as the doctor told him he needed to lose weight. The doctor replies, “What fits better in your schedule- being dead 24 hours a day or exercising 30 minutes a day?” It sounds harsh but it is the reality for many of our loved ones out there.

If time is your true excuse, can you wake up 30 minutes earlier, can you exercise during your lunch break, can you cut out TV time, can you schedule time on the weekends? What about family exercise activities, what about a babysitter, what about joining a gym that has a daycare, what about prioritizing and making it part of your work schedule?

It’s too hard? Scared you can’t do it? That’s what we’re here for! Every member of the Odom Health & Wellness Team has been chosen because we all have the calling, a vocation, to help you pursue health, equip you to make positive lifestyle changes and to assist you in truly achieving a vibrant life while you’re here on earth. Yes, change can be hard, but we’ve all done hard things in life. Yes, you might not want to do it, but that is why you partner with us so we can help you and encourage you. Yes, it might be scary, but we are well trained, specifically educated and thoroughly experienced in sports medicine, medically supervised weight loss, personal training, nutrition counseling, medical fitness, rehab and so much more.

So. It’s time. It’s time. It is Time!

Make a decision. One decision puts you on the right track and then you start small. Ask any of the marathoners, triathletes or other high caliber individuals we see in the clinic. They had to train. They had to change habits. They had to work hard, push through discomfort and do not-fun things they knew were good for them. They didn’t get where they are now overnight but they started with small steps….literally.

I want to do my part in making this a productive partnership so I need your feedback. I want to give you information and products that you will actually use. You name it; I will try and create it:

At-home workout videos? A book? Specific types of meal plans? Webinars? Seminars? Y’all just name it. We’ll still be sending out the familiar OHW Updates with the short articles but we’re going to crank up the number emails with real-life articles, encouragement, stories and items that we send out to you. We’re going to give you more of ourselves so you take away and use more real-life tips, recipes, secrets, routines and encouragements in your own lives.

If you send us an idea that we use, we’ll give you four, free group-training sessions for up to four people.

Remember, it’s you’re time and we’re here to help you whenever you need it. Take control and value the responsibility of your health for you, your kids, your family and your friends. It’s going to be a great year for you!
