We offer amazing physical therapy services. Most people in Minnesota already know this. Let’s say you are waiting to see a doctor or just need some light help when it comes to back pain- what do you do? Well, we have some tips on relieving back pain.

Start by focusing on sleep.  Back pain can keep you up for hours. Here is how to get a better night of sleep; put a pillow between your knees to keep your spine in a neutral position and relieve strain on your back. If you need to sleep on your back, slide a pillow under your knees.

Antidepressants. Yes, your doctor may prescribe antidepressant medications as part of the treatment for chronic low back pain. While it is not clear as to how antidepressants help relieve chronic pain, it has worked in the past. It is believed that antidepressants’ influence on chemical messengers may affect pain signals in the body.

Ice and heat. Regular applications of ice to the painful areas on your back may help reduce pain and inflammation from an injury. This doesn’t work on all back pain so make sure you ask a doctor before trying this.  You also can try warm baths to help with relaxation from the pain itself.

As always, call us if you would like to set up a physical therapy appointment or if you have further questions.
